Message: I happened to look up
at the sky on 24th
August 2008 at 9.05pm and saw 2
aircraft travelling eastwards alogside each
other. At
first I thought they must be fighters at about 5,000 feet, as they
were twice as fast as the local commercial aircraft. I
then spotted another
similar pair flying at the same speed
some way behind, and finally a fifth,
further behind and
much lower, but travelling at the same speed. This fifth
craft was clearly a disk shape and looked almost
translucent, as if dimly lit
from below. There was no
discernable noise from any of the craft. The formation
continued eastwards until they dissappeared from view. I
have never seen or
reported anything like this before. I
only wish I had a camera with me at the
time. There were
numerous low flying commercial aircraft around at the time, on
approach to London City and Heathrow airports. I would be
most surprised if none
of these pilots failed to see these
craft.
