23rd December, 2007, U.K.
In October this year (2007) I saw my first UFO and reported it to our local newspaper. The sighting was close to my local airport where I have flown a friends’ plane many times. The paper did not contact the airport as I had requested. I phoned and once again asked for the airport to be contacted for radar information.
I contacted Nick Pope and asked his advice, he replied by email that I should contact the airport myself which I did.
I had reported (details are all online) a low flying large silver coloured object which seemed to be stationary , at lunch time while I was stopped at 2 sets of traffic lights.
I talked to an operations manager at the airport and was surprised that he knew about my report. He said that on the day in question a 757 had landed at the airport (I had never seen one in 9 years of flying there). I agreed that my sighting could have been caused by temperature inversion and the plane starting it’s final approaches to the airport.
I used Google Earth to see that the the flight pattern of a landing craft would make it seem to be stationary for a small period of time while it was turning from south to east.
I was in the Army for 13 years and served and travelled all over the world by aircraft. I am a local shop keeper and have no connection with UFO groups etc.
I was very impressed by the operations manager, he had answered my questions without insulting my experience of air traffic, the case was closed.
I was very annoyed to receive an email form the airport some days later saying they thought I had seen a helicopter.
My position on UFOs is perhaps the same as most people in our country, the jury is out. I can understand why so many people do not report sightings when the authorities insult you with bland explanations for what could one day be proved to be a risk to the defence of our country.
