We were traveling in a west/south towards Keswick. There was a car approx 500 yards behind our car but we have not heard if they also seen the object.
Low flying/ hovering set of lights, first assumed to be a plane in difficulties due to the red and white lights at low height. Over the fields towards Blencathra, the object moved over to the east slowly within 50 foot in front of the car. We wound the windows down to see if we could hear any problems and there was no noise.
The object hovered above the road in front of us, which scared us and we broke the law and sped off in a west direction! The object was watched by myself whilst my mum drove. The object stayed in sight for about 5 minutes before we lost sight of it. We tried to take a photo but my mobile phone's camera failed to work.
The object had Red and white lights in a elongated arch shape with a darkened area between the lights.
It was approximately 30 foot above ground level traveling at a slow speed and occasionally hovering.
No society or organization has had this reported to them as there are no contact details being held in any local authority to contact and report this to. Other than that no media reports have been given on the sighting.
