On the A3 Towards Portsmouth, Hants, UK 24.04.10

Location: Ockham, Surrey.
Message: We were travelling on the A3 towards Portsmouth, and just before the first set of services I noticed several bright orange lights in the air that looked as though they were stacked on top of each other, almost as if they were attached to an electricity pylon.
They were very bright and gave a strong steady light with no flickering and they were the same brightness all over.
I could see these in the distance and although we were moving, it was clear they were neither drifting or floating.
Getting closer to the sight, the lights looked like they were in triangular formations, each made up of 3 lights, and went from the tops of the trees upwards to a height of that of a pylon.
At first I thought that they were something to do with Gatwick airport but came to my senses that we were travelling on a route that is used weekly by us... and because of the vacinity and position to the road, would be of no use to Gatwick.
As we carried on with our journey I could see across the top of the trees and the lights arched across the sky heading towards the top of the trees and stretched back from the road for a good distance.
I would estimate to be around 30 lights: I have no pics as only had my phone with me and to be honest I was so transfixed on working out what was going on it was more of an after-thought.
My girlfriend was driving the car and she could too see the lights but as I wasn't driving I could get a better view. We got to the next junction and went back up the A3 to take a second look but there was no lights to be seen.
Upon getting home we have been researching the usual Chinese lanterns, but the lights we saw were so intense, bright and still, they could not be put down to the lanterns.
We have Googled the aera and there is an old disused airfield in that region, so maybe it was to do with that, but the position to the road just doesn't add up. Having seen several videos of these lanterns and they all show the lights quite pale in colour with an obvious lighter glow from the candle in the middle and all of them are quite ovbiously moving in the air. These were so still and intense...as this was on the main London to Portsmouth road, somebody else must have seen them or at least be able to give us an explanation....
I do believe in craft and other life forms but I dont want to say these were definitely alien, but I cannot see what else they could be. The weather was dry not windy and very clear...Also there was a fast-moving white light travelling parralel to the road, yet not sure if this was a plane because it was moving at a rapid speed.
